Learn about the diversity of materials found in the Philippines

Why?

The Philippine archipelago is rich with biodiversity. There are many local natural materials that have been used for traditional crafts, art, design, architecture, etc.. With the rise of synthetic materials and globalised supply chains, the usage and knowledge of traditional materials have been declining.

How?

In response to this… We offer experiential learning opportunities to raise awareness about the natural materials found in the Philippines and help facilitate changes in the material decisions we make. Contemporary materials are also featured to showcase Philippine innovations that are processing traditional materials in different ways or utilizing waste by-products (e.g. from agriculture and other industries).

Each material has a story. Our aim is to share the narratives of materials so that you understand their life cycle and the ecological and social contexts that they exist within.
