Overview: During Design Week Philippines 2025, I partnered with the Design Center of the Philippines and facilitated a materials workshop for small and medium enterprises. We looked at materials through the lens of their entire life cycle and from different perspectives (human, non-human, ecological safety, technical, economic, political). Part of the workshop included a hands-on materials experimentation activity with a few local natural materials.
The theme of Design Week Philippines 2025 was “Towards Ginhawa”, so the focus of the workshop was to explore what the fields of design and materials research could be like if ‘ginhawa’ became a key consideration. ‘Ginhawa’ can be translated into English as holistic well-being.
Cultivating systems thinking by looking at materials through the lens of their entire life cycle.
Sharing a localised and multi-perspective approach that participants can use in their practice with materials and design decision-making.
A hands-on material experimentation activity for participants to become familiar with a few local natural materials.
