About

Hi! My name is Roleen Gail Sevillena.

The focus of my work lies at the intersection of materials research, circularity and strategic design for ecological and community health. I’ve been exploring what it means to design in responsible, just and inclusive ways for both humans and non-human beings.

I have a Master of Arts in Eco-Social Design from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). Prior to that I completed the Pratt Institute’s Sustainable Design certificate. I have experience designing experiential learning programmes, leading circular economy initiatives and contributing to marine conservation efforts. As a coastal citizen in the Philippines, I enjoy spending time in, on or near the ocean.

Design Approach

Applied Systems Thinking

Zooming in and out to understand the different facets of a design and how it interplays across systems.

Place-Based

Focusing on a specific context so that the design is localised and meets the needs of those who live there (human and non-human).

Collaborate With Others

Working with a diverse set of stakeholders and knowledge holders throughout the design process.

Long-Term View

Thinking and observing on longer time scales to assess the impacts of a design across its life cycle.

(Re)connect With Life

A more-than-human approach, that works to shift our relationship with other beings and ecosystems on the planet.

Foster Regenerative Practices

Not only mitigating negative impacts, but also creating positive ecological and social impacts by design.
