Material Narratives in the Philippines (Mga Pagsasalaysay Ng Mga Materyales)
Objectives:
- Design a booth that helps to cultivate a deeper understanding of the life cycle of local Philippine weaves
- Help to advance the mission of the HABI Philippine Textile Council, “to preserve, promote, and enhance Philippine textiles through education, communication, and research using public and private resources”
Project Duration: October 2025
Designed For: Likhang HABI Market Fair 2025
Role: Member of the HABI Philippine Textile Council
Overview: An education booth set up at the 2025 Likhang HABI Market Fair, to help bring the stories of materials to life. The focus was on the life cycles of t’nalak and pinangabol, traditional weaves made with abaca. A piña-seda textile was also featured (made with pineapple leaf fibres and silk).
For each weave that is made, there is more than what we see on the surface. There are humans, communities, other species and ecosystems that are involved and affected throughout the weaving process, from harvesting raw materials to the textile’s end-of-use.
