Learn2Lead Sustainability - Module Content
Objectives:
- Evaluate learning content from previous programme offering and make changes to curriculum (my specific task was to update the foundational sustainability theory content)
- Contribute to the delivery of a learning programme specifically for professionals in the Philippines who are working in or want to transition into sustainability-focused roles
Project Duration: Dec 2022 – Dec 2023
Designed For: SustainablePH
Role: L2LS Programme Officer
Overview: For the second offering of the Learn2Lead Sustainability programme, module 1 was revised to give participants a more holistic and deeper foundation of the term ‘sustainability’. The module focused on key definitions, frameworks, and the historical context of sustainability. An exercise was also developed to guide participants in mapping out their vision for sustainability on multiple levels: home, community, their organisation, the Philippines and global.
The word ‘sustainability’ has become mainstream, yet, there is still a lot of confusion about what it actually means or what it looks like. This module focused on building the knowledge of participants on the concept of sustainability so that they have a strong foundation on which to lead sustainability initiatives.
The learning outcomes for the module were as follows:
- Describe key sustainability principles
- Define important terms in sustainability and sustainable development
- Participant understands his/her role as a sustainability leader and their ability to create positive impacts in their organization

In this video, participants learned key definitions, frameworks, and the historical context of sustainability. It was divided into five parts:
- Dimensions of Sustainability
- Why This Notion Of Sustainability Gained Traction
- Sustainable Development
- Meeting Needs
- Sustainability in Context
My role was to curate the module content, make the presentation slides, write the speaking notes for speaker of the module video, and review the video post-production. The video was shared in the Google Classroom for the cohort members to watch.

The purpose of the envisioning exercise was to provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on what sustainability could be like on different levels: their home, local community, organization, the Philippines and globally. The video and prompt questions were posted in the Google Classroom and the participants were asked to submit their reflection of what their vision is for sustainability.

Sustainability education in the Philippines is still in its infancy, so SustainablePH aims to bridge the knowledge and skills gap of professionals in their sectors, wherever they are. The hope is to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable country by equipping professionals with accessible sustainability education. The L2LS program was brought to life to help Filipinos transition and upskill efficiently and affordably.
L2LS is a 10-week hybrid and cohort-based programme for sustainability practitioners in the Philippines, centred on the theory and practice of sustainability management. Practitioners from any field or industry develop the necessary skills to become effective sustainability leaders in their organisations. Participants gain access to online learning material, live workshops and talks, a field trip, and the opportunity to put their learning into practice with a capstone project.
